Central H6 CONET | ‘Inseparable Ties: Cohesion as Told by Hong Kong Historic Buildings’ Photo Exhibition
Description
The Antiquities and Monuments Office (‘AMO’) of the Development Bureau and Art Exhibitions China present the ‘Inseparable Ties: Cohesion as Told by Hong Kong Historic Buildings’ photo exhibition at H6 CONET of the Urban Renewal Authority, which is curated based on the same exhibition held at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in 2022 by the AMO.
Hong Kong, situated in southern China and with a land area of some 1,100 km2, is home to a considerable number of historic buildings. These historic buildings reflect Hong Kong’s characteristics: openness and inclusiveness, a melting pot of both Chinese and Western cultures. Some of the buildings bear witness to, embody and transmit the inseparable connection between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.
Featuring four major themes: ‘Nurturing Talent to Serve the Nation’, ‘Unity and Interconnection’, ‘Resistance and Salvation during Japanese Aggression’ and ‘Helping Each Other through Thick and Thin’, the exhibition unfolds the cultural activities of the scholars who moved to Hong Kong after the 1911 Revolution, the resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Secret Rescue Operation, the continued charitable and financial support from the local institutions to the Chinese Mainland, and the indivisible transportation network between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, etc. With historical photos relevant to Hong Kong historic buildings including, the exhibition aims to underscore the bond between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, and our predecessors’ love for the Motherland through the appreciation of historic buildings in Hong Kong.
